HEANOR'S NUMBER 9 AS A RIGHT BITE APPARENTLY, GO LENNY THE LION |
Heanor continued their winning ways with a tough victory over Rocester who will be disappointed to get nothing out of their second game of the season but if they continue with performances like tonight it will not be long before they start to chalk up some points.
HEANOR SNACK BAR ALWAYS WORTH A VISIT FOR THE FOOD AND THE BANTER! |
As ever a trip to Heanor for a mid week game is always of interest and tonight was no different even with this being the third consecutive blog featuring the club. The club and its fans are always welcoming to the blog and tonight it was also good to catch up with a few Rocester fans too including secretary Barry Smith who is always friendly and a great representative of The Romans.
ROCESTER SEC BARRY SMITH IN DEEP CONVERSATION |
Main attraction after the football is always the snack bar here at The Town Ground for a chip cob with peas and the ladies were back to full strength and on fine form tonight with a good bit of banter always available.
The evening started with me thinking how I could work The Lions, Romans and Christians into a headline but I was struggling until I received a call from former Derbyshire referee, now North West official, Kristian Silcock, circle squared!
Heanor lost two players to tonight's line up in injuries gained at Boldmere on Saturday out went Adie Hawes and Damien Clarke with Rocester including the returning Gerry Moran.
MATCH ACTION |
Half time turn round didn't produce to much respite as Heanor were being forced back and once again they were grateful to Whittingham who pulled off a superb full length save from a Rocester header to deny the Staffordshire side the equaliser.
ASST MANAGER STEVE HUNTINGTON EXPLAINS TO MANAGER GLEN CLARENCE WHY HE SHOULD HAVE GONE FOR THE LARGE TEA! |
On 75 minutes Heanor were awarded a penalty it was one of those harsh decisions that are now penalties but for the 'old school' you feel sorry for the player involved. But hands were high the ball struck it and in todays game its a penalty which Kieran Debrouwer smashed home with conviction. This seemed to take the steam out of Rocester who to be honest had been very impressively organised and looked quite a strong side with Ady Mottershead looking good at the back.
At the final whistle Heanor had secured another three points in what had not been pretty but a tough battle were results have to be ground out. Make no mistake Heanor at present have a great team spirit with a real battling will for one another and the supporters seem to appreciate it too with at all games a collection of fans always stopping behind to clap the players from the pitch. This is a nice touch and from a distance this seems to be well received by the players too.KIERAN DEBROUWER 100% |
Usual return to base by 3 buses and another nice night spent in the company of Heanor Town FC.
