YOUR FOOTBALL WORLD COM LEAGUE @ HIGHFIELD RD

MATCH ACTION FROM HIGHFIELD RD
A superb hat trick and individual performance from young Henry Brooks was the turning point in wining this game for Swanwick.  A goal after 21 minutes and two late strikes were enough for a match ball winning performance from Brooks but he also assisted the second goal from David Robinson.
Following Monday's Welsh Cup Final blog its nice to keep a Welsh link going tonight as much as it may be very tenuous.  Tonight's pre match meal a superb cheese and onion pasty supplied by Y Pantri Cymreag [The Welsh Pantry for the non bilingual].
MMMMM....PASTY
The blog has covered Highfield Rd plenty of times so I wont go through all the ins and outs of getting to the ground but needless to say on arrival it was good to catch up with a few friends there and also nice to note 25 people had decided to attend on this nice spring evening that offered a change to soaps on TV.  I cant remember the last time I attended a reserve fixture but tonight's saw the visitors at the foot of the table but with games left that could see them climb away, with Swanwick in a comfortable mid table position.
The game started badly for the visitors when referee Parr awarded a penalty but Saints keeper Waddington pulled off a cracking save.  It took the home side until 21 minutes to break the deadlock and then on a defensive error that saw Brooks nip in to slot the ball past the out coming Waddington.
The second half was much more of the same with Swanwick attacking and not extending their lead that was until the final 22 minutes.  Firstly Brooks break into the box saw Waddington parry his effort but Robinson was on hand to fire home the loose ball.

It was then time for Brooks to get his hat trick, his second goal came on 81 minutes when Waddington fumbled the ball and the number 9 lashed the ball home.  The best was saved until last when with 2 minutes of the 90 remaining Robinson set up Brooks who raced into the box and curled a shot round the visiting stopper who got a hand to the ball but could not keep it out of the net.
Steady fayre for a reserve game very much illuminated by the impressive Brooks.
